You know what this talk is really about ... gathering content that you may (or may not be) entitled to. That's right, from scraping data from sites to pulling paid-for feeds of information from web services, Matthew Turland will cover it all.
Many of you met Matthew last December when we hosted Rasmus, the PHP creator. Matthew comes to us from Lafayette where he lives and works, immersed in the technology we all hold dear: PHP. He has written 2 books on PHP, one of which he has several copies to give away during his talk (books here: http://www.phparch.com/books/phparchitects-... and http://www.sitepoint.com/books/phppro1/).
I'll bring the pizza and soft-drinks. As always, conversations can be brought over into Capdeville afterwards.
Matthews talk abstract:
"Aspirations for the Web are evolving from rich user interfaces and collaboration to open-linked data and more semantic content. Regardless of the data’s origin, a common set of skills is needed to retrieve and parse it for use in other applications. This presentation covers the process of extracting and manipulating data from a variety of sources, from communicating with Web services to developing crawlers and scrapers for more traditional acquisition."
See you guys next week!
